FLOOD ROUTING ANALYSIS FOR NETHERTON GREENS C-8 MODEL
CLIENT: Miller Legg and Associates
LOCATION: OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA
ESTIMATED PROJECT CONSTRUCTION COST: $10,000,000
PROJECT DESCRIPTION / SCOPE OF WORK:
Performed XP-SWMM (XP Software commercial software version of EPA SWMM) flood routing analysis and created a s report utilizing Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM) C-8 existing and future conditions models for the 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 year storm events. Proposed lake in-fill in the Opa Locka are of Miami-Dade County. A total of four scenarios were analyzed including (1) Current conditions as it is today (2) filling in 25 Acres within their right-of-way and (3) a cumulative scenario of all properties who have fill rights including the Netherton Greens property to fill in the lake within their property boundaries as requested by Carlos DeRojas, P.E. and Eduardo Lopez, P.E. who work with SFWMD Surface Water Regulation Department in West Palm Beach, FL. A comparison of hydrographs and tabular results was reported for all 30 XP-SWMM model runs and a final conclusion of a negligible flood stage impact to the C-8 Basin’s critical nodes was provided. Some critical nodes examined include the Opa Locka and Miami Gardens. Overall the project was a success with permits approved by both South Florida Water Management District and Miami-Dade County Regulatory and Economic Resources (previously known as DERM).
